Dee here from The Artisans Gifting Company. Did you know that seam accuracy can make or break your quilting project?
Quilts are pieced with a standard quarter inch seam and the accuracy of that measurement is key to success. Many of today's sewing machines come equipped with a quarter inch foot that can help you achieve good results but it is always good to test the accuracy before starting your first project. The easiest way to do this is to cut 3 strips that are 2-1/2 x 4" with your rotary cutter. Using your 1/4" foot sew the three strips together and press the seams. The centre strip should measure 2" wide.
If your strip does not measure 2" seam to seam you will need to make an adjustment by moving your needle and repeat the process until you achieve the results. This may seem like a lot of work but trust me it will save you plenty of time and frustration in the long run.
